Delhi_
It was five o'clock in the morning. Misha was in the depth of her dreams until an irritating sound from the alarm shattered the peace.
She opened her eyes in annoyance, kicking her bed repeatedly until, after a few minutes, she finally managed to turn the alarm off.
She sat up, her hair a messy braid that fell to her shoulders. She was wearing a cerulean pajama set adorned with small white lilies.
After a moment, she rose from the bed, grabbed her phone, and played her favorite song on Spotify before walking toward the washroom.
An hour later, she emerged wearing a very pretty light pink kurta with delicate chikankari work. She let her pitch-dark hair fall loose, reaching near her waist.
She was busy dancing joyfully to "YOU ARE MY SONIYA" from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham when her phone rang.
A random number was calling. She ignored it for a while, but the person kept calling. Finally, sighing in frustration, Misha answered the call, her voice dripping with annoyance"Hello, kya hai yaar, aapko thoda sa bhiβ"
(Hello, what is it, why don't you have someβ)
A girl with a voice full of excitement cut Misha off mid-sentence: "Arey! Di, main hoon Saira, Ashok Ji ki beti." (Hey! Sis, it's me Saira, Ashok's daughter.)
Misha instantly brightened upon hearing Saira's name and plunged into a deep conversation. She was so engrossed that she completely forgot to check the time. When she finally ended the call and glanced at the clock, it was eight o'clock.
"Oh, shit! I am late!" she panicked, quickly grabbing a pair of jhumka earrings and running out of the room.
"Arey Mishu, aaraam se, gir jaaogi," Raman said, looking up as Misha hurtled down the stairs, trying to clip the heavy earrings on.
(Mishu, be careful, you might fall)
After hearing her father's warning, Misha carefully walked the rest of the way. She moved straight to the kitchen to inform Manisha that she would be skipping breakfast because she was going to the Durga Ma Temple.
"Accha, theek hai, aur haan, aaj thoda jaldi aa jaana," Manisha replied. Without listening to the rest, Misha quickly agreed.
(Okay, but try coming home a little early today,)
Misha put on her white heels, hopped into her car, and drove toward the temple. She reached her destination in fifteen minutes and walked inside.
Standing before the idol of Durga, she closed her eyes and began prayingβfor the welfare of her entire family and the continued growth of Joshi Industries.
She felt a strange, inexplicable sensation but chose to ignore it, completing her prayers. She didn't pay much attention to anyone else in the temple and quickly made her way back to her car.
She drove straight to the Joshi Industries of Technology. As soon as she reached, she parked her car in the lot and walked toward the elevator. She stepped inside and pressed the nineteenth floor.
When the elevator doors opened on the nineteenth floor, Misha stepped out and walked toward her cabin.
Employees greeted her respectfully, and she offered polite acknowledgments before stepping inside and sitting in her chair.
A moment later, a girl with tan skin and sharp facial features entered Misha's cabin. She was wearing a bright yellow dress and holding a thick pile of files.
With a wide, bright smile, she walked toward Misha's table and wished her a good morning. Placing the files down, she said, "Ma'am, these are the files that you asked us to work on, and we are done with them.
You can check them once, and if any corrections are needed, you can inform me."
Misha nodded. "Hmm, okay, Sanvi." Sanvi, Misha's assistant, was also a very good friend. Misha knew Sanvi was excellent at her work, which was the main reason she had been appointed as her personal assistant.
Sanvi then informed Misha about the meetings she had to attend and left the cabin.Misha became so engrossed in checking the files that she didn't realize when lunchtime had arrived.
A knock came at the door, and Misha called the person in.Karthik, Misha's brother, entered with a suspicious smile playing on his lips.
He was wearing a beige suit over a white shirt, the top three buttons playfully undone. He walked over to Misha's desk, sat in front of her, and simply began to stare.
Misha caught his gaze from the corner of her eyes and asked, "Kya hua, mere pyaare se chehre par aapka bhavishya dikh raha hai kya?"
(What happened, can you see your future on my pretty face?)
Karthik shook his head, a playful smirk spreading across his face. "Mera bhavishya itna kharaab nahin hai ki ab tumhare chehre par dikhega."
(My future isn't so bad that it will now be seen on your face.)
"Accha, toh mujhe ghoor kyun rahe ho?"
Misha asked, leaning back on her chair.
(Oh, then why are you staring at me?)
"Dekh raha hoon ki tumhari bandar jaisi shakal ko kaun shaadi ke liye haan karega," he declared, suddenly standing up and bolting from Misha's reach.
(I'm seeing how anyone will agree to marry someone who looks like a monkey, )
Misha shot up, grabbing a pen and chasing Karthik. Just then, Raman entered the cabin, glanced at the two running figures, and ordered, "Rukhh jaao, mere dono shaitaano!"
(Stop, my two devils!)
Misha skidded to a stop and turned to Raman while Karthik ran to hide behind his father.
"Papa, aapko pata hai kya? Aapke is bewaqoof bete ne mujhe bandar kaha!",Β Misha complained in an accusatory tone.
(Dad, do you know what? Your stupid son called me a monkey!)
"Toh maine galat kya kaha?" Karthik giggled, peeking out from behind Raman.
(So what's wrong with that?)
"Dekho!" Misha took a step forward, but Raman stopped her and gently tapped Karthik's head.
(See!)
Karthik grinned while Raman affectionately consoled Misha. Once she was satisfied with her father's words, Misha turned back and stuck her tongue out at her brother. Karthik, however, was already busy texting someone important: Rithika.
"Misha, how many meetings do you have today?" Raman asked, walking toward the couch and sitting down.
Misha answered, "I have two meetings after lunch; they shouldn't take too much time."
"Okay," Raman said, leaning forward. "And I wanted to tell you both one more thing: yesterday, Ashok's first son returned from London. So, the Rajkot family is coming to our house for dinner tonight."
"Whatttttt!" Karthik exclaimed, turning his entire attention to Raman.
